Short samples are noisy. As a rule of thumb, around 60 words can give a rough lean; a few hundred words support a more confident reading. Below that, many tools — including IA Checker — warn that the result is uncalibrated.
Cover letters and CVs often sit in the weak zone. Loosen your priors, read the passages, and do not treat a thin letter like a long essay.
