Check a cover letter for AI writing
Cover letters are short, polite and full of stock phrases. Detectors often lean AI on them even when a careful human wrote the draft. Here is how to read a result without overclaiming.

Most cover letters sit near the length where style signals are noisy. Under roughly a dense paragraph the engine itself will warn that the reading is uncalibrated. Treat thin letters as thin evidence.
If you can, ask for a longer writing sample for roles where prose matters. Do not invent certainty the letter cannot support.
Formal register looks "AI"
Job applications punish personality. Applicants compress themselves into safe adjectives and parallel sentences. That is also what generators produce. Agreement between a detector and a template-heavy letter is not surprising.
Open the sentence view. Generic enthusiasm in the opening usually flags first. Named product work, constraints and trade-offs in the middle are where human detail shows up.
If you are the applicant
A high score on your own letter is not a verdict that you cheated. It often means the letter is doing what hiring advice told you to do. Add specifics only you could know, vary sentence length, and cut the throat-clearing opener.
If you used a model as a draft and reworked it heavily, say so if asked. Honesty beats a score argument.
